East Clare is well known for its strong history in Irish traditional music. Each week, from Wednesday to Sunday, throughout the year, the four pubs in the village of Feakle play host to music, dancing and singing sessions from a host of local, national and international talent.

Feakle is the ideal location from which to explore the surrounding East Clare countryside. Whether it be walking along the East Clare Way or roving hills and undisturbed countryside or following lakeside paths, there is much to discover. Every October, the East Clare Walking Festival draws hundreds of walkers and outdoors enthusiasts to the area. Guests can book guided walks and night time walks during the summer months
Feakle is at the foot of the Slieve Aughty mountain range. The Slieve Aughties are famous for their rugged beauty and the many ruins that dot their mountains.
Arts & Heritage
Feakle is surrounded by National Heritage sites, all easily accessible from Loughnane’s. Within a 15-minute radius of Loughnane’s, guests can visit the monastic settlement and round tower on the Holy Island of Inis Cealtra (trips can be booked at Loughnane’s), the 10th century St Cronin’s church, the ancient Celtic site of Craggaunowen, Brian Boru’s Fort, Coole Park as well as many other megalithic monuments such as dolmens, ogham stones and holy wells. Famous names associated with Feakle include Biddy Early, Brian Merriman (Poet) and Johnny Patterson (Composer and Entertainer). Thoor Ballylee, once home to WB Yeats, is also within easy reach. The vast and unique geological marvel that is the Burren and its karst landscape is just 30 minutes from Loughnane’s.
Loughnane’s is one of the best locations in the country for those interested in angling, with 35 lakes within 15 minutes of Feakle. Due to its central location, visitors not only have the option of fishing on the Republic of Ireland’s largest lake, Lough Derg, but also on the lesser known, Lough Graney, County Clare’s biggest lake or even the mountain lake, Lough Atorick. Whether it is river fishing, shore fishing or boat fishing there is much to discover in the surrounding waterways. Before relaxing for the night or going to the local pubs, visitors can either cook their spoils in a self catering private house beside the guesthouse or can give the catch to our chefs to be served in the restaurant.
Each year the hostel accommodates an ever-growing number of cyclists. We are on a route from Limerick to Galway or from the coast to the Midlands and cyclists can travel along the quiet back roads of a hidden Ireland. We have secure overnight facilities for bicycles. You can hire bikes from us to explore the quiet winding roads of East Clare.
For golf enthusiasts and novices, the East Clare Golf Club is three miles from Loughnane’s. The accommodation is the ideal venue for your Golf Society outing. After your day’s golf, unwind in the village pubs and enjoy the music and the craic.
For the more experienced riders, horses can be provided locally allowing you to trek through the immediate countryside. However, if you require some guidance in the arena or crosscountry there are many equestrian centres within a short drive. Within a 20-mile radius there is a choice of six equestrian centres, the nearest two being just five miles away.
Loughnane’s, Feakle, offers great-value comfortable accommodation near Derg Isle one of the country’s newest and best facilities for team building, personal development and survival training. Derg Isle is located on an 18-acre site outside of Scariff, County Clare and caters to a variety of people including sports teams, clubs and corporate groups as well as individuals. University of Limerick Adventure Centre is 20 minutes from us.
