Music
East Clare is world renowned for its strong history in Irish traditional music. Each week, from Wednesday to Sunday, throughout the year, the four pubs in the village play host to music and singing sessions from a host of local, national and international talent. On the second weekend in August there is a long established music festival with visitors coming from all over the world to share in the culture and all that goes with it. Neighbouring towns also have festivals at other dates throughout the year.

Walking
Feakle is the ideal location from which to explore the surrounding East Clare countryside. Whether it be walking along the East Clare Way through roving hills and undisturbed countryside or following lakeside paths, there is certainly much to discover. Feakle is at the foot of the Slieve Aughty mountain range where ancient sites can be visited. Lady Gregory’s Coole Park is only 20 minutes drive, as is Thoor Ballylee, home of W. B. Yeat’s. It is only 30 minutes from Feakle to the vast and unique geological marvel that is the Burren.

Heritage
Feakle is surrounded by National Heritage sites, which are easily accessible. Within 15 minutes in each direction, visitors have the opportunity to visit the 10th century St. Cronin’s church, the ancient celtic site of Craggaunowen, the monastic settlement and round tower on Inis Cealtra (Holy Island), Brian Boru’s Fort, Coole Park as well as many other megalithic monuments such as dolmen, ogham stones, holy wells. Famous names associated with Feakle include Biddy Early (Wise Woman), Brian Merriman (Poet) and Johnny Patterson (Composer and Entertainer).

Fishing
Fishing has long been a recreational pastime for locals and visitors alike. Within 15 miles of the hostel, there are 35 lakes. Due to the hostel’s central location, visitors not only have the option of fishing on the Republics largest lake, Lough Derg, but also on the lesser known, Lough Graney, Co. Clare’s biggest lake or the mountain lake, Lough Attorick. Whether it be river fishing, shore fishing or boat fishing there is much to discover in the surrounding waterways. Before relaxing for the night or going to the local pubs, visitors can either cook their spoils in a self catering private house beside the hostel or can give the catch to our chefs to be served in the restaurant.

Cycling
Each year the hostel accommodates an ever-growing number of cyclists. We are on a route from Limerick to Galway or from the coast to the Midlands and cyclists can travel along the quiet backroads of a hidden Ireland. The hostel provides secure facilities for bicycles over night.

Golf
For Golf enthusiasts and novices, the East Clare Golf Club is 3 miles from the hostel. We are the ideal venue for your Golf Society outing. After your days golf unwind in our village pubs and enjoy the music and the craic.

Horse riding
For the more experienced riders, horses can be provided locally allowing you to trek through the immediate countryside. However, if you require some guidance in the arena or cross-country there are many equestrian centers within a short drive. Within a 20mile radius there is a choice of 6 equestrian centers, the nearest two being 5 miles away.

Restaurant
We are delighted to provide many of the ingredients for our meals from our own garden and from local producers. Our commercial kitchen caters for, visiting groups, parties, festivals, special fine dining evenings as well as individual guests.

Venue
Because of its natural infrastructure and purposeful design, the hostel building, courtyard and grounds can host a large variety of events. In the past the hostel has hosted weddings, fine dining dinner parties, charity events, concerts, theatre performances, health and detox retreats and special interest classes. Because of our unique restaurant and the fact that we offer accommodation, the hostel is ideal as a venue for large groups. We are more than happy to adapt to the specific needs of your event and look forward to accommodating your group.

Hostel grounds
The hostel is located on the main street of Feakle. To back of the main house, there are 12 acres of land stretching up to a hilltop overlooking the village and surrounding countryside. On the grounds, there is a large courtyard with a large stream running through, the old waterwheel, vegetable gardens, a poly-tunnel, a herb garden, a small orchard and horse stables.
